Why Pestle and Mortar Exfoliate

Pestle & Mortar Exfoliate uses Glycolic Acid, a gold-standard ingredient in skin care. Glycolic Acid has been scientifically shown to have anti-acne and anti-ageing benefits.

Due to its small molecule size, Glycolic Acid is able to penetrate the viable dermis and stimulate collagen and elastin in the deeper layers so that skin appears firmer and fine lines softened. But its ability to do this is dependent on the free acid value and the pH of the formulation.

Willow Bark Extract gets converted into BHA in the skin and is able to penetrate the pores where it helps to clear them of sebum and dead skin cells.

Free acid value and pH

Skin acids need to be able to pass through the skin’s surface oils to work. The free acid value tells you how much of the skin acid can penetrate and is free to work in the skin.

This toner has a free acid value of 6.8% and a pH of 3.8. These two factors together determine the effectiveness of AHA products and their irritancy. Pestle & Mortar has formulated these to be at optimal levels to deliver results, while minimising any potential irritation.

The Pestle & Mortar Exfoliate Glycolic Acid Toner has been blended with White Daisy Extract, Green Tea, Aloe Vera and Allantoin to soothe, calm and protect the skin. You’ll also find Niacinamide, which is a multitasking powerhouse ingredient. It’s able to strengthen the skin barrier, help regulate sebum, disrupt the transfer of melanin and improve signs of ageing, and more.
