Why choose Colorscience?
Colorscience is at the forefront of sunscreen innovation. It takes the approach that the best defence is mineral suncare offence and therefore only uses mineral filters. And nowhere it this more important than in Australia.
The brand formulates with clinically tested ingredients to ensure you get the best results and your skin’s health is protected. It only uses mineral filters, antioxidants and botanicals to formulate its skin-caring products.
The mineral filters it uses to protect the skin from the sun’s rays are Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, specifically non-nano forms. Colorscience avoids all mineral particles in the range of 1-100 nanometers.
Mineral filters are generally more suitable for those with sensitive or reactive skin and are better for environmental reasons.
Some sunscreen ingredients can worsen skin conditions, causing irritation, stinging and itching. Oxybenzone and Avobenzone are the two most common culprits, but other ingredients in the formulation also can cause skin issues. Alcohol, fragrance, essential oils and some preservatives can be problematic too. Colorscience formulates with only the safest ingredients to minimise the potential for skin reactions or acne breakouts.
Mineral filters are a better choice for anyone who is pregnant or breast-feeding as it has been found that some chemical filters make it into the bloodstream and breast milk.
Some of the chemical filters of the greatest concern are commonly used in sunscreens: Octinoxate, Oxybenzone and Avobenzone. If you’re expecting a baby, you may wish to avoid these.
Zinc Oxide is one of the safest and most effective sun protectors available. It blocks both long and short-wave UVA and UVB rays. And it has antimicrobial properties, as well as helping to heal wounds more quickly.
Titanium Dioxide is very gentle on the skin and non-comedgonic. It’s better at blocking short-wave UVA and UVB rays.
Additionally, Octinoxate and Oxybenzone are thought to be harmful to coral reefs. Hawaii and Florida have regulated against sunscreens that contain these chemical filters to protect their marine environments.
The US FDA has proposed that 11 ingredients commonly used in sunscreens need additional safety and efficacy data. These 11 are:
- Oxybenzone
- Avobenzone
- Homosalate
- Octinoxate
- Octocrylene
- Cinoxate
- Dioxybenzone
- Ensulizole
- Meradimate
- Padimate O
- Sulisobenzone

Colorscience testimonial
Colorscience is one of the few brands I really trust when it comes to sun protection. Its products are awesome and I love them. I have sensitive skin and find it difficult to find a sunscreen that not only protects me from burning, but also doesn’t cause irritation or clog my pores. I’ve tried so many other sunscreens, but IMO it’s the best. I really like the Colorscience Sunforgettable Total Protection Sun Shield Classic as it blends into my skin really well and it doesn’t look like I’m wearing sunscreen at all. I don’t end up looking oily or shiny either. This one’s perfect for me.
