Gluconolactone (5.5%) does more than just remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. It can help repair an impaired skin barrier, improve hydration, increase skin thickness and reduce the look of wrinkles. Interestingly, it has antioxidant powers that are comparable to the more famous Vitamin C. While similar in chemical structure to AHAs, it has a larger molecular size and therefore penetrates less deeply.

Prickly Pear a natural enzyme activator. It increases the rate of cell renewal and improves clarity. It’s rich in antioxidant compounds known as polyphenols, which neutralise the effects of airborne pollutants and calm sensitive skin. Prickly Pear Extract is also great source of fatty acids and amino acids, which are important for healthy skin.

Aloe Vera reduces irritation and enhances skin hydration. It also imparts a lovely refreshing and cooling sensation when used in formulations.

Acai Fruit is a potent antioxidant that protects against the damaging effects of free radicals and supports the skin’s repair process so that skin can fight premature wrinkles and pigmentation. I have dry, dehydrated, sensitive, acne prone skin. My skin is forever fluctuating between nice for a day or two then raging at me for 7-10 days, repeat, repeat, repeat. I had started to read into acid toning and how it could help. I had sussed out my AHAs from the BHAs and PHAs and decided this PHA variety from Medik8 would be the best place to start. After 2 weeks of twice daily use, I really started to see a difference in how much calmer my skin was and how much clearer it was. Stupidly, I stopped using it on a whim after a friend bought me a rival AHA acid toner. It didn’t feel as nice … and my skin didn’t look as calm or as clear. I stopped using the rival after two weeks and within two days of using Press & Glow again my skin is looking how it looked after the original two-week period.
