Avène Thermal Spring Water soothes and calms the skin given its anti-irritating properties.

Ascorbyl Glucoside is a gentle but highly potent  form of Vitamin C that, unlike pure Vitamin C, is stable. It neutralises free radicals,  brightens skin tone and promotes collagen production.

Tocopheryl Glucoside is a stabilised form of Vitamin E that combats oxidate stress by preventing the formation of free radicals and DNA oxidation.

Artemia Extract is a promising multifunctional skin care ingredient, providing antioxidant protection, shielding skin cells from UV and heat stress and supporting skin barrier health. One study found it to have anti-ageing effects as it induced collagen production but reduced cell senescence.

Avène ethos

Avène’s story begins in 1736 when the horse of the Marquis of Rocozels, suffering dermatitis, would regularly roll in thermal spring water on the Marquis’ land in Avène in the south of France. The waters provided soothing relief and improved the horse’s dermatitis. The Marquis, seeing the remarkable results, decided to build thermal spring baths that were opened to patients with skin conditions.

The benefits of Avène’s Thermal Spring Water have been demonstrated in more than 150 studies. And, in 1871, Avène Thermal Spring Water was sent to America to soothe the burn victims of the Great Chicago Fire.

The thermal spring baths grew in popularity and became the Avène Hydrotherapy Center. This was bought in 1975  by Pierre Fabre Laboratories, the second largest private pharmaceutical company in France. But it wasn’t until 1990 that The first Eau Thermale Avène products were produced at the site, bringing its benefits to the rest of the world.

In 2010, Avène developed its first preservation system that enabled it to make a product without preservatives, making it suitable for those with allergic skin. Avène was ahead of its time, understanding the importance of the need to restore balance to the skin and preserve its microflora.
