Description
Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream Ex is a deeply hydrating cream that keeps skin plumped with water for up to 24 hours.
It contains Green Mineral Water to strengthen the skin barrier and help it naturally retain more moisture.
This moisturiser works in two ways. It provides your skin with immediate hydration and locks it in. In addition, it works to enhance your skin’s own water-holding powers.
This is a luscious cream that melts into the skin and leaves it feeling quenched. Skin will look dewy, plump and radiant.
It doesn’t contain occlusives such as Coconut Oil, Shea Butter or Lanolin so it won’t feel heavy or block pores or congest the skin.
The Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream Ex is a silky cream that works well in the morning under makeup and at night to lock in moisture but without leaving that greasy feeling.
It feels cool and comforting on the skin and helps ease the look of fine lines and creases.
Why Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream?
Laneige is known for its hydration technologies and this product is no different. It incorporates a hydro-ionised mineral water to flood the skin with nutrients such as zinc, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese and sodium.
It combines this with another of its unique processes, Water Zipper Technology, to lock in moisture and keep the skin hydrated for up to 24 hours. And while hydration is the name of the game with this cream, this doesn’t mean that Laneige has left out other skin actives.
You’ll find antioxidant botanicals, Vitamin E, Vitamin C (Ascorbyl Glucoside) and a host of other skin-restoring ingredients. These include Beta-Glucan, Quinoa Seed Extract, Garden Cress Extract and Glycine Soja.
We like that Laneige carefully considers every ingredient it uses. You’ll find everything that’s needed but nothing that’s unnecessary.
The Laneige Water Bank range was first developed in 1994 and is still going strong. This Ex edition is the new and updated version of this cream.
Technologies
Laneige’s research identified that many people experience skin hydration issues because of a weakened skin barrier and that this causes an accelerated rate of skin ageing. This led Laneige to develop its line of Water Bank creams.
As well as providing immediate hydration, they target the production and maintenance of the skin’s natural moisturising factors (NMFs). Laneige discovered that that mineral water is effective in stimulating the production of NMF’s in the skin.
However Laneige wanted to amplify the benefits of the mineral water. After studying hundreds of plants, the R&D team chose those with the highest levels of minerals and developed a unique extraction method called the Ocean Brew Method. The plant extracts are combined with the mineral water and subjected to an ionisation process at a temperature of 15 deg. Celsius for five hours so that all the compounds are extracted gently.
The brew is rich in minerals that replenish skin cells and help the skin produce more NMFs. Over time, this strengthens the skin’s barrier and ability to hold onto moisture, leading to more hydrated skin.
Laneige also uses what it calls Water Zipper Technology. This creates an imperceptible film on the skin that allows moisture to be trapped without the formulation using silicones or heavy occlusive ingredients.
Key ingredients
Green Mineral Water is a unique Laneige process that ionises sea water with green plant extracts that are rich in antioxidants and nutrients. This unique process was developed using 25 years of research by the R&D team. The ionisation process results in a higher concentration of minerals and supercharges the free radical scavenging powers of the infused water.
Glycerin is included for its humectant properties. It draws water into the outer layers of the skin and holds it there. This gentle ingredient makes the skin feel soft and supple.
Squalane is an oil that’s very similar to the skin’s own sebum. It prevents water loss in the skin. This ingredient is skin compatible as it’s similar to Squalene, which is naturally present in the skin. The skin is able to recognise and put it to good use to moisturise the skin and protect against the oxidisation of lipids in the skin. Peroxidation can prematurely age skin and damage the pore lining, playing a role in acne. Squalane is lightweight and non-greasy.
Glycine soja, derived from the humble soybean, has antioxidant powers and contains fatty acids. Studies have found that isoflavones in Glycine soja help fade the appearance of skin discolourations and reduce the excess transfer of melanin to the skin’s surface. This ingredient also helps maintain hydration and prevent water loss from the skin. Glycine soja contains a blend of fatty acids that replenish, as well as smooth and soften the skin.
Garden Cress Extract is a potent antioxidant that neutralises the damaging effects of free radicals. It’s claimed to be 30% more effective than Vitamin C. However Laneige also has added some Vitamin C in this formulation.
There’s a lot more to Laneige’s products than first meets the eye. The ingredient lists may sometimes seem simple but it’s what lies behind them that makes all the difference.
Laneige’s technologies are a distinct part of the brand’s success and are a closely guarded secret. And this is why so many ‘me too’ products come up short.

Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream Review
Absolutely divine moisturiser. It’s luxurious. The texture is amazing. It’s rich without being heavy or greasy at all, and instantly melts and absorbs into the skin. Skin feels instantly hydrated and plump and smooth. Ten out of ten. It is scented, but I adore the scent.
