Biafine brand story
Biafine Emulsion was first developed by a French chemist, Paul Wenmaekers, in 1971 to treat burns on the skin of his daughter-in-law, a YSL model. Given the impressive results, he sought market approval and five years later it was launched.
Paul Wenmaekers and daughter-in-law Catherine Collard-Wenmaekers were able to have Biafine Emulsion introduced for use in a hospital near Marseille after being successor tested on patients with radiation burns.
It then took 42 pharmacists and doctors to perfect the formulation and get the necessary approvals to develop the product for commercial use. In 1976, it was manufactured by Medix Laboratoires and finally launched in France.
Biafine Emulsion continues to be made in France to the highest quality and safety standards.
It’s been so successful that it’s estimated that about 65% of French households have at least one tube in their home.
